HKRIA Pleased to See the 14th Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music) Continue Driving Cross-Sector Creativity

The 14th Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music) has officially launched. Organised by the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing (AIM) and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) as the lead sponsor, the Scheme has long been dedicated to promoting cross-sector collaboration among Hong Kong's advertising production, film and television, and music industries. Through funding and professional training, the Scheme encourages local creative talent to produce original and story-driven microfilms, nurtures the next generation of creative professionals, and contributes to the sustainable development of Hong Kong's creative industries.

Twelve Years of Nurturing Talent: Over 340 Companies and 290 Singer Groups Supported
Launched in 2013, the Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music) is a cross-sector collaboration initiative that brings together advertising and film production with music creation. Since its launch, the Scheme has been well supported by the industry and has been held for fourteen consecutive editions, supporting over 340 advertising production companies and more than 290 singer groups in collaborating to produce original microfilms. It has provided valuable creative platforms and hands-on production experience for the local film, advertising and music sectors. In recent years, the Scheme has expanded its scale year by year, with over 30 original microfilms produced in each edition. The Scheme has become a successful example of cross-sector collaboration between the advertising and music industries, with some microfilms receiving significant awards, nominations or screening opportunities at local and overseas short film festivals.

This Year's Funding Details: Two Tiers Nurturing Talent at Different Stages
This year's Scheme offers two funding tiers: the "Start-up Enterprise Tier" and the "Professional Tier." Under the Start-up Enterprise Tier, 10 start-up advertising production companies are participating, paired with singers through a drawing of lots to form 10 creative teams. Each team receives funding of up to HK$130,000 to produce an original microfilm of 4 to 8 minutes. The Professional Tier features five self-formed teams, each comprising a director, scriptwriter, singer and advertising production company, demonstrating a more professional level of creative capability. Each team receives funding of up to HK$240,000 to produce an original microfilm of 12 to 16 minutes.

Professional Training and Industry Mentorship: Comprehensive Support for Creative Teams
To support the development of local creative talent, the Scheme offers a range of professional training and mentorship arrangements in addition to production funding. The organiser invites experienced industry professionals to serve as mentors, providing guidance on scriptwriting, directing, production and post-production, helping participating teams enhance the quality of their work and creative capabilities. Directors and singers who have participated in past editions have noted that the professional guidance and practical opportunities provided by the Scheme have been invaluable to their creative careers.

Promotion of Works and Awards
Completed microfilms will be showcased to the public and industry through various channels, including Hong Kong FILMART 2027, local TV stations, online platforms, social media and the Scheme's official website, allowing more members of the public and industry professionals to appreciate local creative achievements. To recognise outstanding works, the Scheme offers a range of awards, including the Best Microfilm Production Award (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Best Microfilm Actor/Actress Awards (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and the Most Popular Microfilm Award (selected by public voting). Outstanding works and teams may also be recommended to participate in international microfilm or short film competitions, expanding their exposure and creating more work opportunities.

HKRIA as a Supporting Organisation: Glad to See Creative Forces Flourish
As one of the supporting organisations, the Hong Kong Recording Industry Alliance Limited (HKRIA) has been glad to support the Scheme over the years and is pleased to see it explore innovative forms of expression through cross-disciplinary collaboration. The fusion of music and visuals not only helps great works reach a wider audience, but also raises public awareness and appreciation of the value of music. We thank the organiser, the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing, for its thoughtful efforts, and the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency for its support in making the Scheme possible. We are happy to witness this creative energy alongside our industry peers.
